On Feb 14th 2007, Chantal was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She was 33. In March 2007 she underwent a Radical hysterectomy and Bilateral oopherectomy which triggered an early menopause.
“I felt, old and ugly, useless…a waste of space. I didn’t recognise who or what I had become”
On Feb 17th 2008, Chantal experienced a photoVoyage and says
“I have always hated having my photo taken. I’m so unphotogenic I really wasn’t sure what benefits I would gain from photoVoyage. But not only did I find the photo session easy and relaxed, I actually enjoyed it! The results were truly unexpected. I not only ended up with a selection of the most natural photos I have ever had done, but also with Penny’s help, was able to look beyond the aesthetic image to discover aspects of my character that I had forgotten existed! photoVoyage helped me to appreciate that there are many aspects to me. The bad and the ugly are just as much a part of me as the good. The process of photoVoyage helped me to not only recognise but also to accept each part of my character. It was like being reintroduced to an old friend! They may have taken my uterus away, but I’m still in there!
My friends and family love the photos, even the serious ones! I want to hold a party to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 months. What better way to say thanks than to be able to show them how far I have come with a range of images from my journey.
The process of photoVoyage helped me to not only recognise but also to accept each part of my character. It was like being reintroduced to an old friend!
