Frequently asked questions

Why black & white and not colour?

After over 30 years as a portrait photographer, I still believe in the impact and clarity of black & white, without colours in the background, hair or clothing distracting from the impact of the expressions.

Why photos and not video?

A photo captures a moment – nothing before or after, and no sound. It is this moment, open to personal interpretation that is the key to photoVoyage.

How come Penny is doing therapy and she is not a therapist?

photoVoyage is therapeutic, but it is not therapy. I have over 35 years as a photographer and teacher and 10 years as a coach/facilitator using photoVoyage and see it as a valuable complement to any personal development programme.

What if I don’t have a therapist or a development programme?

You can still benefit from a photoVoyage, especially if you use the book of your voyage and write and reflect on your photos using the prompts provided. In its simplest form, photoVoyage is a unique experience that can be enjoyed for the photos themselves. The quality of the time spent during the photoVoyage session is valuable in itself.

What if I don’t live in London?

If I have to travel outside London, I need to do a minimum of 2 clients in a day. I have rates for individuals, groups of 2-5 voyagers a day, and workshop rates . All travel and accommodation costs will need to be covered.

What if I don’t like my photos?

Experience has shown that even if people don’t initially like what they see, after looking and chatting for a while, they usually accept that the photos show a real honest picture of them, even if it is not necessarily the most attractive one. The positive talk around ‘who’ they see seems to replace those insecurities, but I would never insist people like their photos.

Can I talk to someone about my photos again later on?

A few months, or a year on, you can contact me again and we can have an on-line discussion about how you are feeling and how you are using your photoVoyage photos.

Should I share my photos with other people?

Absolutely - but only if you choose to. It can be a great benefit to get feedback from others who may see you differently from how you see yourself. When you feel really happy and confident with your photos, then share them.

Can I make copies and frame the photos?

By all means. You will have a cd of all your photos. They are yours – the more you look at them, the better!
